Arizona Bike Weeks started this week…What changes will riders see?

October 9, 2020 By Laurie Montoya Leave a Comment

Arizona Bike Week is a time honored tradition for many riders in our region. Normally held in March at a time where Colorado riders long to get away from the cold and ride with no jacket or heated gear. Held in Scottsdale, Arizona, riders can check out a minor league baseball game, balloon races and amazing sunsets while listening to great music.

ABW was rescheduled to October 7th thru 11th after receiving a special permit from the City of Scottsdale with the understanding that they would have to adhere to local and national guidelines. This had to be quite the negotiation as most of the Phoenix valley’s music venues and festival remain in limbo.

So what will riders see different when they arrive at Arizona Bike Week? Most the guidelines that were put into place is very similar to what riders saw at Sturgis with the exception of the mandatory mask wearing.

Masks – The event’s website states that everyone is required to wear a mask at all times while inside the gates. They can be removed while sitting at a table.

Concerts – The RockYard will feature a series of sections separated by security barriers and at least 6 feet of distance. Groups of up to nine people will be allowed in each and a high-top table will be available

Vendors – The event will not be missing a beat with the number of vendors and it appears that most if not all that have attended in the past have come back to support ABW and to try and survive. Our small biker owned businesses have really struggled during COVID with all the events cancelled in 2020.

We wish ABW a successful event and if you attended, please leave your comments below.

6th Annual Hornbuckle Foundation

October 1, 2020 By Laurie Montoya Leave a Comment

Hornbuckle Foundation and the Sober Souls Motorcycle Club teamed up, once again, for their 6th Annual Poker Run. Over 200 bikes and another 200 people showed up in force for the cause. Hornbuckle Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a Sober Living Placement and Recovery Coaching Program that helps those struggling with substance abuse find their recovery path to long-term recovery.

The run started at Renegade Classics and ended at Dirty Dogs Roadhouse in Golden, CO. Kai Turner from 103.5 The Fox was the MC, a custom Michael Hornbuckle, Delaney guitar was live auctioned, and nearly $20,000 was raised for their program. It was an amazing turn out and for many, a great escape for a great cause!

On the Road Again

August 4, 2020 By Scott O'Sullivan Leave a Comment

Scott O’Sullivan

The whole world may be exhausted from stay-at-home orders and social distancing, but none have the advantage that bikers possess to escape the lock-down blues.

One recent Saturday morning, driving back towards Denver on highway 285, I saw hundreds of riders, going in the opposite direction headed into the hills. From what I could tell, they seemed to all be smaller groups going out on individual adventures. It was a beautiful sight! It made me think about how riders must all be laughing to themselves that they can continue doing what they love while mostly maintaining COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Yes, there are recent setbacks that are, again, straining our favorite restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, but the spirit of motorcyclists continuing to enjoy the freedom that the open road offers is pretty special. And together, we’ve all reached the end of our ropes and are ready to get back to events that let us celebrate the brotherhood and sisterhood that bikers hold so dear. So, let me share a few things that we have to look forward to for the rest of the summer.

8/22: On The Wings of Angels Poker Run

This is our second year sponsoring this event for Angel Eyes. Angel Eyes is a non-profit that helps Colorado families cope with the sudden, unexpected death of an infant or toddler, miscarriage, and stillbirth loss. They offer professional bereavement counseling, a support group, peer connections, and community referrals to those who are grieving.

This is their 4th Annual Motorcycle Poker Run and what a great event to support! The ride starts and ends at Dirty Dogs Roadhouse and entry fees include breakfast, lunch, swag bag and door prize ticket! Other fundraising takes place through their silent auction and 50/50 drawing.

We’ll be there to cheer on riders and give away more prizes. You can find out more details and register at angeleyes.org.

8/29: Colorado Women’s Day of Rock

Rider Justice was all set to sponsor the Women’s World Record Ride on 8/29 but organizers were recently denied necessary permits due to COVID-19. This may limit the number of out-of-state lady riders for that date, but the rest of us are still here and desperate for entertainment. We decided to keep the national act Lez Zeppelin, an all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band, booked and plan for next year’s world record attempt.

The show will be free with in-kind donations going to local non-profit, BikerDown.

Mark your calendars and join us on 8/29. There will be vendors and live music all day. Join us early to grab a picnic table with a great view and celebrate the women who will beat that world record in 2021!

9/5: Honda Monkey Contest Drawing/ Look Twice Save a Life Ride

The bad news is that we were originally going to give away this fiery little 125cc beast at the Look Twice Save a Life Ride in May. The good news is that you still have time to register because the BikerDown annual ride is now scheduled for September 5th.

Because of all the uncontrollable issues with events so far this year, we’ve adjusted the contest where there will be five pre-qualifiers drawn before the event and another five will be drawn on the day of to offer more chances at winning. We will have keys and each qualifier will have a chance to see if their key starts the bike!

Remember, you can register once online and every time you see Rider Justice or BikerDown at an event. The day of the event will be your last chance to register so plan on spending the day with us after the BikerDown ride.

Register now for the Look Twice Save a Life Ride at BikerDown.org as early registration guarantees a ride t-shirt. Day of registrations are welcome and appreciated but shirts may be limited at that point.

Gaiter survey

We have a small giveaway we’re doing with your voluntary help with a very short survey. It’s three questions only and at least the first 50 people will receive a customized Rider Justice gaiter in the mail.

You may participate in the survey giveaway here.

What to do

There was this blissfully brief time this spring when motorcycle accidents were extremely low. Unfortunately, the trend is swinging back hard. If you or someone you care about has been in an accident that wasn’t their fault, encourage them to take the time to speak with me. People seem to be eternally optimistic that if they have medical and motorcycle insurance, everything will work out, but I am here to tell you that you want someone who knows their tricks on your side. I will happily meet with anyone to discuss their case for free and help them figure out next steps. Call or text me anytime at 303-388-5304

Freedom Fest Mini

July 9, 2020 By Colorado Rider News Leave a Comment

When Colorado Freedom Festival was forced to cancel its show at the JeffCo Fairgrounds, Dean Gary reached out to Dirty Dogs Roadhouse to try and salvage the annual event in some capacity. With swift action, Freedom Fest Mini was created and took place on June 20th at our favorite Golden biker bar. Guests were admitted with a donation that would be distributed to Veteran charities. Thank you to everyone for your generous donations to support our nation’s heroes!

Freedom Fest (Mini)

June 5, 2020 By Colorado Rider News Leave a Comment

On May 27th, Colorado Freedom Festival made the announcement that their annual concert, scheduled for June 26-27 was canceled due to the state disallowing large group gatherings.

This event, that celebrates and raises awareness for Veterans, is something founder, Dean Gary, is passionate about. He stated on Facebook that he was “absolutely devastated” about the forced cancellation. He also decided that he would try to do some sort of concert series as a way to honor our nations heroes in some fashion this summer.

Within days Gary had worked out a FREE show date in partnership with Dirty Dogs Roadhouse:

Freedom Fest Colorado MINI

  • Dirty Dogs Roadhouse
  • 17999 W Colfax Ave Golden CO 80401
  • 11am to 10pm

FREE! ALL WE ASK IS AN IN KIND DONATION FOR THE CHARITY AT THE DOOR TO GET IN.

Freedom Fest Delivers it all: Food, Fun, Rock & Roll!

July 2, 2019 By Scott O'Sullivan Leave a Comment

Scott O’Sullivan, founder of Rider Justice & The O’Sullivan Law Firm

This year’s 5th annual Colorado Freedom Festival was an extravaganza like never before! The event’s goal is to gather people to honor military veterans and to thank them for their service. Every year, proceeds go to benefit veteran’s charities. This year, in addition to benefiting The American Soldier Network, this year Freedom Fest also included Colorado Fallen Heroes Foundation, a charity that serves the families of fallen police officers.

Without question, the venue change to Jefferson County Fairgrounds was a great move by Dean Gary, event organizer. JeffCo offered space enough for the crowd and vendors alike to spread out and get comfortable. Thousands of attendees brought lawn chairs or blankets and kicked back across wide swaths of green grass to enjoy the show.

The bands that performed this year were just over the top:

  • Queensryche
  • Extreme
  • Great White
  • Steel Heart
  • Vixen

With local bands:

  • Straight Six
  • Lotus Gait
  • Rhoar

Time between sets was just long enough to make runs to one of the dozens of beer and food vendors. We heard over and over again how great the craft brews tasted!

Matthew won tickets to Freedom Fest from Rider Justice.

In fact, so much was better this year because of the additional space that it makes it hard to even compare to past years. Access to food and beverage seemed much more steam-lined and lines so much shorter! The whiskey tasting at the entrance was a treat for all connoisseurs and a sign that the event is growing in sophistication.

At our Rider Justice tent, we collected registrations to give away another customized Yeti cooler. With the heat of summer kicking in the cooler was a hit! We had lots of activity and had a wonderful time meeting new people and spreading the word about our services to the biker community. We handed out buckets of sunscreen to protect the crowd from the blazing sun and even more koozies to help keep their drinks cold!

Next to our booth was BikerDown! Always our favorite non-profit, we were proud to share our space. Wide Open Saloon ran the show by sharing the good work BikerDown does for the community as well as selling raffle tickets for a pristine 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. Wide Open Saloon is giving 100% of the raffle sales to BikerDown. If you missed grabbing raffle tickets at Freedom Fest, don’t worry! Raffle tickets can be purchased online here.

A big “thank you” to Dennis Tye, Lauren Preston, and Russ Young for their generous help at our booth. They have such big hearts and already do so much philanthropic work in our rider community, that we know how lucky we are to receive a bit of their time.

And a big, warm “thank-you” to Dean Gary. It takes heart to put in so much time and energy, year after year, to create an event of this magnitude.

“The biggest impact – the real reason I do this—is to let soldiers know they’re loved,” he says. “When soldiers can stand in a crowd of thousands, where people are hugging them and telling them they are loved… that can save lives. Love can save lives. That’s why we don’t quit after the years I lose money. When someone tells you that they didn’t take their life, nothing can replace that.”

Freedom Fest 2019

June 5, 2019 By Colorado Rider News Leave a Comment

By Dean Gary, Freedom Fest Founder

Colorado Freedom Festival is here again June 29th at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. It will be our 5th year! Without the loyal support of the Freedom Fest Family this could never happen. I can’t express my gratitude to our all of you for coming together to celebrate our Nation’s Heroes.

Molly Hatchet Concert Rocked!

June 5, 2019 By Colorado Rider News Leave a Comment

By: Chomper Montoya

If you are a motorcycle rider who visits Dirty Dogs Roadhouse as much as I do, you surely have to agree that the continued transformation of Dirty Dogs is nothing short of miraculous. Last weekend over Memorial Day weekend, I watched as Mark, Rob and the DD team transformed our local biker bar into a concert venue the likes of which this community hasn’t seen here in Denver at the biker bar level.

Freedom Fest: Behind the Scenes

May 2, 2019 By Scott O'Sullivan Leave a Comment

I have met a lot of remarkable people in my life, but right now I stand in awe of Dean Gary, founder and organizer of Freedom Fest, an event that celebrates the men and women who serve in our country’s military forces.
